# How to Create Snapshots?

### How does the snapshot function work?

In the GB Cloud Control Panel, you can create snapshots of your instances. These snapshots allow you to restore an instance or create a new one based on the saved state.

Snapshots can also be used to launch new instances with the same or larger disk size than the original. For example, a snapshot from a 50GB instance can be used to create a 70GB instance. However, a snapshot from a 70GB instance cannot be used to create a smaller 50GB instance.

1. Login into your [Cloud Control Panel](https://cp.gbcloud.net/login)

2. In the left sidebar, click on the 'Instances' tab, then click on the existing instance in your Cloud Control Panel that you want to create a snapshot of.

3. Click on the Snapshot tab, then click the ‘Create Snapshot’ button.

4. Enter a name for the snapshot. For this guideline, we’ll use the example: snapshot.gbcloud.dev. Then, click ‘Save’ to complete the creation.

5. After creating a snapshot, the status will appear as ‘active’ once it is successfully created.
